online tuition at Better Tuition

Online with qualified teachers

We are currently offering online group tuition for Year 5 students preparing for Trafford’s entrance exams. The one-hour sessions are run by Centre Co-Owner, Paul Syrett and take place at 5.30pm on Tuesdays. Each session costs £24. Book your free trial session today.

How it works

First, contact us to let us know you need an online lesson. We will organise  a free session and let you know our availability.

To book a FREE trial session, please fill in the form below. Please note that our free assessment/ trial sessions are for prospective customers only.

We will send you a lesson invitation via email. When accepting the invitation, you will click on a link and enter a code (which we will send you). It really is very simple. Our lessons run via Zoom.

What you need

You will need a computer with a webcam (preferably) and a microphone (essential). Your child will need to be seated at a table or desk, with a pen and some paper. You may want to use headphones. We will email homework to you after the lesson. You can email a photo of the homework to us when it is completed – hopefully before the next lesson.

What will happen during the lesson

We create an atmosphere of focused, purposeful learning. As you know, Better Tuition uses the methods of interleaving and spacing. Interleaving is a process where students mix, or interleave, multiple subjects or topics while they study in order to improve their learning. Spacing involves continual revision throughout a series of lessons.

How we achieve great results

This means we don’t approach topics in blocks, making one topic of the lesson the main focus. By practising interleaving and spacing, we ensure that learning becomes firmly fixed in our students’ long term memory. We find that this approach enhances motivation, maintains concentration and yields fantastic results. Here is a very good article about interleaving and spacing.

Better Tuition’s methods yield fantastic results

Lesson activities will be interactive, engaging and varied.  Students will investigate, and illuminate, the topics in hand. Your child’s tutor will be visible and audible and they will be visible and audible to their tutor. This will assist interaction. However, if you or your child prefer not to be visible (many teenagers may feel self-conscious), you can switch off your web cam.

Lessons can be in Maths and English or entrance exam preparation.

After the lesson

As all our customers know, Paul and Christine are always available to discuss your child’s progress. You can do this via email or text, or you may prefer to telephone us on 0161 748 3912. We aim to offer a full wraparound service which ensures that you and your child feel fully supported.

Costs

Online tuition costs £24 for a one-hour small-group session and £31 for a 75-minute individually-planned session within a small group (not currently available). The difference between the two is that the small groups follow a set programme with each child completing the same tasks, whilst the 75-minute sessions follow our in-centre format where each child has their own lesson plan and activities are tailored to their individual needs.
