December 12th: make a difference with free rice

Learning shouldn’t stop over the festive season but hunger most definitely should. Millions of people in developing countries will go to bed hungry tonight.  Day 12 of our advent challenge is dedicated to freerice.com.

Online game to end hunger

Play the learning games at freerice.com and for each correct answer, 10 grains of rice will be donated through the UN World Food Program to help end hunger.  There are several subject areas but we think the vocabulary quiz is most apposite for Key Stage 2 children in the UK.  It really is an excellent way to learn new words while helping fight hunger.

Read more about how playing freerice.com can help yourself and others.

The program adjusts according to the ability of the player and is challenging without being too taxing.

It takes a lot of grains of rice to feed someone (around 19,000 grains will provide the calorific requirements of one adult for one day – that’s 1900 correctly answered questions on freerice.com) – but doing a little with a lot of other people can really make a big difference.  Free Ricers have already fed more than 5 million people, just by clicking on correct answers.  Try it now and start making a difference.
