Autism Hour 2019

Autism Hour 2019 is organised by the National Autistic Society. Businesses across the country will be participating this week. This annual event encourages shops and services to provide a better experience for autistic people. Eden Square in Urmston will be running their Autism Hour today from 10 – 11 am.

Autistic people can be overwhelmed by loud noise, bright lights and intrusive odours. The bombardment of modern marketing techniques can lead to sensory overload and serious stress. Many autistic people avoid shopping for this reason. Autism Hour aims to change this.

During Autism Hour, businesses will be:

? Turning down music and other noise. Where possible, in-store speaker announcements and other controllable noise will be reduced if possible.
? Dimming the lights: bright lights can be overwhelming.
? Sharing information about autism with employees.

Better Tuition is an autism-friendly business; we work in a calm and quiet environment with minimal sensory intrusion. Our staff are trained to meet the needs of autistic children and adults. All students are welcome here and we hope that Autism Hour will help businesses consider long-term changes which will lead to a better experience for everyone.
