It’s half term with a difference this time around (the difference being that even the Halloween bats have had their wings clipped!).

Artventurers want as many people as possible to display a pumpkin in their window. The idea is that parents can take the kids for a walk around the neighbourhood to see how many pumpkins can be spotted. You canEureka! It’s Time for Science!
try out some brain training or check out these eye illusions.
Got some felt tips, kitchen rolls and pegs? Then you’re all set to do some science! Join Eureka’s science oracle, Chris, for some creative chromatography. If that’s not your thing,Have a Roald Dahl Day
take a virual tour of the Roald Dahl museum. Next, it’s time for some artistry: watch How to Draw Matilda, or Willy Wonka or create a free account at Twinkl and download some colouring in. For lunch it has to be a revolting recipe or two and after that why not spend time reading your favourite Roald Dahl books together?
A dose of the marvellous medicine that is Roald Dahl is sure to put the fizz whizz into your half term. Start by dressing up as your favourite Roald Dahl character andIt’s good to get out in the fresh air every day, so take the opportunity to scour the park for Marvellous Medicine ingredients? Back home you can stir it all up and bottle it, ready for Grandma’s next visit! After all that activity, you’ll be ready for some downtime: time for a film (our favourite is Matilda) and a snuggly rest on the sofa.
Halloween Scavenger Hunt
If you’re self-isolating, even a trip to the park is out of bounds and in any case, the weather is always unpredictable at this time of year. So if you need to stay in, why not try a Halloween Scavenger Hunt? Kids love dashing around the house following clues and it will help to add excitement to a locked-down Halloween. If you prefer to get out and about, this Neighbourhood Halloween Scavenger Hunt is ideal.
You don’t have to wait for Halloween to do a scavenger hunt; just make your own! Write a list of items and pack the kids off to search around the house. You can also make your scavenger hunt educational, like this one.
Get Totally Gruesome
Combine a kids’ version of break-out rooms with The Crystal Maze and you’re some way to understanding what Totally Gruesome is. This socially distanced Halloween attraction at Ashton-Under-Lyme’s Metro Cinema sees kids given five minutes in 10 different themed rooms to try and crack codes and solve puzzles. Themes include the Spiders Cave, Gruesome Dinosaurs and the Clown Graveyard. You’ll get to meet the Wicked Witch and a team photo from the ‘Mirror, Mirror on the Wall’, but you can only book with people inside your bubble. Book here.
