On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me a partridge in a pear tree (so I had 1 item).
On the second day of Christmas my generous true love gave to me two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree (so I had 3 items).
Day 1 = 1 = 1
Day 2 = 1 + 2 = 3
Day 3 = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6
Day 4 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10
Day 5 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15
Day 6 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 = 21
Day 7 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 28
Day 8 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 = 36
Day 9 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 45
